Tough Toy Pros Review
Oh, my. We had such high hopes for this one. The Ethical Pets Beyond Tough Stuffed Toy Turtle made many promises. Beyond tough, it said! Built to last with the bigger dogs and aggressive chewers, it said! Tough ballistics nylon binding keeps edges from fraying, it said!
That last one was actually true. The edges didn’t fray; but only because they were all that was left of the toy after Willie tore it inside out from its center, where it claimed to have beyond tough quilted felt with multiple layers of fabric and an overstuffed core for added strength.
It’s true, it was overstuffed. It was massively stuffed. This thing was the thickest toy we’ve ever seen. And I thought it was a good tactic that would work. All that stuffing would be pulling the fabric so tightly that Willie wouldn’t be able to get a good hold on it with his teeth. It seemed like an excellent idea.
Stuffed as tightly as it is, the toy is rigid and does not bend. Its body is a soft, felt material. The head, legs, arms and back are made from nylon, and feel strong like a winter coat or a tent. It looks like Ethical Pet took a lot of care to make the seams extra durable. It really looked like it was going to be beyond tough.
But no. Of course Willie found a way to tear it apart. That’s what he does. It wasn’t even difficult for him. It took about two minutes and 15 seconds before I heard the tell-tale ripping sound of another stuffed toy being meeting its demise.
It does have a squeaker, but inconsequential is the only word to describe it. The cutest thing about the turtle is its face, particularly after it had been destroyed. Its face has the appearance of feeling the same way about itself as we feel about it.
Oh my god, I loved it! It was the best three minutes of my whole day. And the stuffing! My personal confetti, what joy! This toy had so much stuffing inside I felt like it was Christmas and my birthday all in one day.
This toy was fat. It was so fat that I had a hard time getting my jaws around it. But, no worries, I just laid it flat and tore right through its center. I usually like to tear faces clean off as soon as I can, but I didn’t bother with this one. Mom took it from me before I had the chance.

Pit bulls, Boston terriers, Australian shepherds, and any dogs with teeth were able to tear this turtle toy apart in minutes. Three minutes, five minutes, 10 minutes – these are the times buyers reported that it took their dogs to destroy the toy. If it didn’t split down the middle, the seams ripped apart. One reviewer didn’t like that it was stiff and hard.
People like the material this is made with. They like that it is stuffed so tightly. One reviewer said his dog still likes it even though it is torn apart and devoid of stuffing. A reviewer with a labrador said the toy has lasted her a couple weeks so far. It took a pitbull mix a couple weeks of intermittent play to tear a leg off. People agree that it is cute.
It seems clear that this toy turtle is not made well enough to withstand the abuse of aggressive chewers.
