Kong Squeakair Tennis Ball with Rope Review – More Than Just A Ball

Is it a Durable Dog Toy?

I am always looking for inexpensive, durable dog toys for powerful chewers, and this Kong ball has worked for us. Luckily, the Kong® Squeakair Tennis Ball with Rope is more than just a ball. It also has a rope running right through the middle of it that can be pulled through in either direction. And – get this fun – the ball squeaks. This ball is quite loved by my aggressive chewer, Willie.

The rope can be pulled through the ball in either direction.

Willie likes to hold the ball between his paws, grab the knotted end of the rope with his teeth, and pull it through each side. He gets (almost!) the same satisfaction from pulling the rope as he does tearing up blankets, shirts, socks, any fabric.

It’s a nice surprise when the ball squeaks. It makes the same high squeak-sound most stuffed toys make. Willie could make quick work of it if he chose to chew up and destroy the ball. But he doesn’t, and I think it’s because he has too much fun running through the house, squeaking it over and over. I have no doubt, however, that it will meet its demise soon.

I can use the rope to play tug-of-war with him. Now, it is a gentle tug-of-war, to be sure.  Though it’s lasted us two weeks so far, it won’t withstand much more play, and hasn’t been subjected to very much rough play yet.

Willie holds his Kong ball himself.

You might not have as much luck keeping this toy around as long as we did, because it really wouldn’t stand up to the direct abuse of aggressive chewers. But for around $3, this Kong tennis ball has more than earned its three stars from me and Willie.

Willie’s Say on Kong SqueakAir Ball

I like this ball. I get so entranced by pulling the rope through each side, over and over, that I forget all my worries like how I can’t pull Banana Dog apart or kill the squeaker in my Kong Squeezz Stick. This ball and rope are soothing, and any time I want to I can just reach over and give the ball a good squeak.

Low Reviews

Most low reviews center around the rope. It is nylon or plastic of some sort and will fray and pull apart quickly. The ball itself is also easy to destroy if a dog chews it directly. Dogs are able to pull the ball off the string as well.

High Reviews

High reviews come from those who use this ball as a training tool, or those who use it to play fetch. Even when the rope is destroyed or pulled off of the ball, the ball remains as a useful plaything.

Overall Impression

The Kong Squeak Air Tennis Ball with Rope is excellent fun for fetch and play. It is not made for nor does it withstand chewing.

The Nitty Gritty

From online product descriptions:

  • 100% pure tennis fetch toy
  • Extra long rope for throwing and easy pick up
  • Non-abrasive and nontoxic felt cover that won’t wear your dog’s teeth down
  • Squeaker for added entertainment

Size: It is a regular size tennis ball. The rope is about 15 inches long.

Price:  $2.44 at Amazon. $2.59 at Entirely Pets and Chewy. $3.99 at Petco.

Best Bargain:  Amazon was the best deal when I bought it for $2.44, but sometimes they raise the price. Entirely Pets or Chewy give the next best deal.
