Kong Squeezz Ball – Indestructible and Fun

Tough Toy Pros Review

The Kong® Squeezz Ball is the gold standard of indestructible dog toy balls. I spend a lot of my own energy trying to find ways for Willie to burn off his excess of energy. These balls are a great aid with that. Wille and I can play toss and fetch for 20 minutes with plain old tennis balls, but when I bring out his Squeezz Ball afterward, it’s a whole new ball game, literally. He’s amped and eager to begin another play session.

Kong ball tough toy
Willie is ready for yet another round of fetch with his Kong ball.

Willie will also play with this ball on his own more often than with any other ball. It has a lot of bounce, and he enjoys throwing it up in the air and chasing it down himself. You and I know what this means – a little bit of rare time where I get watch him enjoy himself with no effort on my part.

One of the best things about these Kong balls are that they are relatively inexpensive (around $3) so you can buy quite a few. They are great toys to take on the road, and you won’t be set back too painfully if one gets lost.

Willie’s Kong ball is size large, a perfect fit for his mouth at 3 inches in diameter. The balls also come in medium (2.5 inches) and extra-large (3.5 inches).

Kong ball large
The large size Kong ball fits perfectly in Willie’s mouth.

The squeaker inside is recessed and I have seen the claim made that it will retain its squeak even after being punctured. Ours is not punctured yet, even after four months of vigorous play. I will let you know if the squeak remains after it is punctured.

I don’t expect that to be any time soon. They are made of non-toxic plastic rubber that admirably withstands being chomped over and over. They come in fancy colors of ruby, sapphire, emerald and amethyst.

This ball is much like the Kong® Squeezz Jel animal family, except it’s smoother and rounder. It doesn’t have little ears and noses that may be nibbled off like the Jel family does. For this reason, it may be a better choice for some. We own and enjoy both.

Willie’s Review

BALLLL! Somebody said ball! I got my ball, this is my ball, I got my ball, wanna play ball? I got it I got it I got it I got it I got it I got it . . . I love this ball. I can squeak it myself! I want ten of these so I can run around chasing them endlessly.

I come across this ball all the time. I find this ball under the couch, in the laundry, on the steps, under the bed. This ball is everywhere! I love this ball! All mom has to do is squeak this ball once and I come running.

Low Reviews

This ball has been destroyed by dogs in five minutes, 20 minutes, less than a day, 24 hours and three days. By far the biggest complaint is that the ball will lose its squeak after a short period of use. A few customers purchased several of these balls but for them, every ball they received lost its squeak. At least three dogs got the ball stuck on their nose after the center popped out of the ball. You are not able to choose the color you want. Breeds who tore up this ball were: German shepherd, malamute husky, golden retriever, boxer mix, westie, and doberman.

High Reviews

58% of Amazon reviewers gave this ball five stars. A lot of other reviewers praised the ball as I did because their dog will play with it by themselves. Many reviews describe how much their dogs love the ball and how they throw it, chase it and run through the house squeaking it in their mouths. The ball is described as a must have, easy to wash, inexpensive, durable, exciting, resistant and safe. This ball lasted eight months with a boxer and six months with a German shepherd. Some of the types of dogs who enjoyed this ball are: Labrador, lab mix, Boykin spaniel, Irish setter, corgi, beagle, Aussie shepherd, blue healer, pit bull, Manchester terrier, and border collie.

Overall Impression

Everyone with an active, high energy dog should get several of these balls. You will lose them, or they won’t squeak, or one might fall apart. But by and large, these are great toys that often perform well through a lot of use.

  1. I love Kong toys as I find that they are actually very well made. I dont have a dog but instead cats and they have a number of kong toys which actually last longer than a lot of other toys that they have (and my cats love to rip toys apart).
I think with squeek toys some dogs always seem to want to kill then squeek and will wreck the toy whilst others will just play with the toy. My friend has two shar peis and they love soft toys BUT they wreck them in under 15 minutes. I got them a kong classic for xmas and though they looked a bit strangely at it at first as it wasnt a stuffed duck (or moose) they have played with it a lot every since and it is almost still going.

That’s funny – I never thought of cats being aggressive toy destroyers. Maybe I’ll have to start a whole new category! Thanks for visiting.

  2. I got a Kong recently for my dog. She’s a pitt/boxer so I had to get her the largest size which came up to like $20! I couldn’t believe that it was so much for a chew toy. Now I’m seeing here that I could’ve gotten 6 of these Kong balls for less than that price. MINDBLOWN.
By the way, Willie looks kind of like my Bella! But she is a brindle 🙂

Those Kong treat toys are nice, too. We will be reviewing those here soon as well so check back often. In the meantime, the Kong balls are sure winners. I hope Bella enjoys hers! Thanks for stopping by Gina.
