Our first tough dog toy review of the year is in and it’s 5 stars! The Jolly Pets Teaser Ball is a fun dog ball that Willie loves to chase around the yard. It is a ball that has wide openings on both sides. Willie can see another, smaller ball bouncing around inside the outer ball. He’ll never be able to get to the inside ball, but, of course, he tries and tries, which is the whole point.
Here is a video from Jolly Pets’ website where a fellow named Kevin Duggan not-so-cleverly clearly reads cue cards about how the Jolly Ball comes in four sizes and different colors.
You can see from the top photo here that this ball is made using sturdy, thick plastic. (It’s actually high-density polyethylene.) That’s good, because it takes a beating. It does stand up well to Willie’s jaws clamping down on it. He sticks his snout right inside one of the openings to pick it up. He can carry and run with it this way, too.
We’ve bought the 8-inch size ball, and you can see it’s plenty big enough for our Willie to enjoy. One thing I learned from reading the many reviews on this toy is that just because a certain size may be designated as suitable for your dog’s weight, it doesn’t mean your dog will prefer that size. Some larger dogs prefer a medium or smaller size ball.
One review site suggests spreading peanut butter or yogurt on the inside ball to make your dog even more interested in it. That’s a clever idea I have yet to try.
Our Jolly Ball is scratched and shows teeth markings from Willie playing with it. But it does not affect its use at all. To me, its scratches are like the smile lines on my face that some may describe as wrinkles. They wouldn’t be there unless we’d had some fun.
The only downfall we’ve noticed occurs if you bring the ball inside your house. If your floors are carpeted, it’ll be fine. But if your floors are wood or tile, the ball is obnoxiously loud when it rolls across them.
This ball will last a long time. We’ve had our Jolly Ball since Fall, as you can see from all the leaves in our pictures. I expect we’ll be playing with it well into summer this year and beyond. If for some reason we’re not, and the ball lets us down in some fashion, you’ll hear about it here.
The ball inside this ball drives me nuts! Luckily, I am exceedingly strong and clever and can pick it right up and show it who’s boss. I am always ready for a go around the yard with this ball.
One of these days, I’m going to get that smaller ball inside, even if I have to gnaw my way through! In the meantime, I am getting great exercise!

There is some concern that a newer version of this ball is on the market that doesn’t stand up as well as the balls previously made. If a dog chews on it heavily, the plastic edging can become sharp and cut a dog’s mouth.
This ball is amazing. A reviewer on Amazon said he’s had his ball for 15 years. This ball stands up well to a lot of rough play with some seriously heavy chewers and strong dogs. What’s more, many dogs are fascinated with the smaller ball inside. They spend hours chasing the ball around trying to get to it. People note that it is the only toy their dog hasn’t been able to destroy. Many dogs pick this up and run around with it and throw it in the air.
The Jolly Pets Teaser Ball earns consistently high reviews on every site and lasts a long time with heavy chewers. With four sizes to choose from, this is an excellent choice for any dog family.
