Tough Toy Pros Review
Gosh, how I wish they would stick some fur on the outside of this thing. Then I could finally, at long last, all this time later, say we’ve found the most elusive of playthings, that unicorn of dog toys, the stuffed plush squeaker dog toy that lasts more than ten minutes with a power chewer. The only thing wrong with the Outward Hound Fire Biterz Squeakers dog toy is nothing. But if they could just shove some stuffing inside and glue some fur on this, it’d be a dream come true.
Fire Biterz toys are seriously tough dog toys. Advertisers use words like super-tough and long-lasting to describe them and I can say it’s true, true, true, it’s all true. No kidding. They are not even exaggerating. These are the real deal. Fire Biterz are made with the same material that fire hoses are made with. It stands to reason that fire hoses would be crazy tough. This was a fabulous idea that really panned out.
We’ve got a large green lizard that has three squeakers. It is long enough for us to play tug with it. The small size toy is exactly the same with only two squeakers. They are big squeakers and fill the toy’s entire middle. Thankfully, they aren’t too loud or too obnoxious. I think that the way the toy is shaped, long and snake-like, works well to entice Willy to play.
I don’t know what fire hoses are made out of, but this material feels like a super stiff, super thick canvas. The manufacturer says it is made with multiple layers of tightly-woven rubber-coated fibers. Its flappy little legs are just wimpy pieces of cloth sort of pasted on as an afterthought. Willy tore those off straight away.
But the bulk of the thing is solid, and it’s really nice to see a toy that squeaks stick around for awhile. The Fire Biterz series also includes a dragon, firefly, santa, elf and sea monster so you can change it up a little if you buy more than one.
This thing. I swear. When I first got it, I thought, ha. Easy pickins again! But the doggone thing wouldn’t tear up. I twisted it. I turned it. I bit it sideways and back and forth. I did all the things dogs are required to do to squeaky things. But it just stayed right like it is, provoking me with those big eyes. I got so aggravated I tore its legs right off!

As much as it amazes me, apparently some determined dogs are able to chew right into and through this thing in no time. MInutes, days, or a couple weeks, even. I can actually see how a couple weeks of determined chewing could get through this. But minutes? Those are some razor teeth! Also noted is that the squeakers are fairly muted, which is true. That may seem to be a bonus for us humans, but usually dogs are much more interested in loud squeakers, so this may not hold your dog’s attention as much as some other toys.
52% of Amazon reviewers give this four stars or more and 72% of Chewy reviewers recommend this toy. If your dog likes this, it can last him longer than any toy ever before. It has done so for many dogs, even those who are heavy chewers. Especially those who are heavy chewers! A great many pet owners talk about how no other toy lasts as well or as long as this one does. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
This is a must-have for anyone whose dog is a serious chewer. It will likely last a long, long time.
